Why Georgia
Many couples choose Georgia because registration is quick and the bureaucracy light. Others are drawn by the wine country, the mountains and old Tbilisi.
Some couples come from different countries and are looking for neutral ground where both families can travel. Georgia works well for that - it has visa-free travel with many countries.
And finally, the Georgian supra is a celebration in itself. A wedding fits into it naturally.
Our role
A state body registers the marriage, not us. We prepare the documents, book the appointment and stand beside you at the ceremony.
When planning, we bring together the venue, the photographer, the decor, the music and the guests' logistics, so you deal with one person.
Some need only the registration, others the whole wedding. In both cases we work with the same precision.
Civil registration
For foreigners the marriage is registered at the House of Justice or another state services office. An official state ceremony can also be held at another location.
The time it takes depends on the documents and the type of service: often a few days, sometimes even the same day.
After registration you receive a marriage certificate. We explain this in detail on the registration page.
Who can register
Both partners must be adults and must not be in another marriage. Citizenship does not matter - both can be foreigners.
Under the Georgian constitution, marriage is a union of a woman and a man. We say this up front so that the plan is realistic.
Citizens of some countries may need an additional certificate. We check the list by citizenship.
Documents
The main document is the passport, with a notarised translation into Georgian. We arrange the translation here.
If one partner is divorced or widowed, a corresponding document is sometimes required. We find that out in advance.
Passport validity and the spelling of names must match across all documents. Even a one-letter mistake causes problems later.
Apostille and recognition
To use the marriage certificate at home, it often needs an apostille. Georgia is a member of the Hague Convention, and the apostille is issued here.
Countries outside the convention require consular legalisation. That is a longer route.
Recognition depends on your own country's law, not on Georgia. So we recommend checking at home in advance.
Sighnaghi
Sighnaghi is called the "city of love", and its wedding house is known for registering marriages at any hour of the day or night.
The town overlooks the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus. A photo session on the fortress walls after registration has become a tradition.
Opening hours can change, so we always check before the date.
Church wedding
A church wedding in a Georgian church is a beautiful and ancient rite. But it has no civil legal force - registration is needed separately.
The church has its own conditions: baptism, documents, a conversation with the priest. During some fasting periods church weddings are not held.

Other faiths
Tbilisi has Catholic and Armenian churches, a synagogue and a mosque. A religious ceremony is arranged with the relevant community.
A religious ceremony and civil registration are two separate steps. They often happen on the same day, sometimes on different days.
If you are of different faiths, a symbolic ceremony that suits both families is often chosen.
Symbolic ceremony
A symbolic ceremony can be held wherever you like - in the mountains, a vineyard, on the seashore. The legal part happens separately.
It is led by a friend of yours or by a host we choose, in your language. We write the text together.
It is the freest format, and often the most personal.
Choosing a venue
Old Tbilisi suits a city wedding: courtyards, balconies, old houses. The chateaux of Kakheti suit the vineyard and the wine cellar.
Kazbegi and Gudauri are for a mountain ceremony, Batumi for the seashore. Each has its own logistics.
We choose the venue by the number of guests, the season and the travel involved. Details are on the venues page.
Season
The most popular months are May, June, September and October. The weather is mild then and nature is beautiful.
In autumn Kakheti has the rtveli, the grape harvest, and a wedding during it is special. But chateaux fill up early at that time.
In summer Kakheti is hot, while the mountains are pleasant. In winter a mountain wedding in the snow is beautiful, but the road may close.
Date and day of the week
Weekends are the busiest - Georgians marry on those days too. The venue and photographer need booking early.
On a weekday there is more choice and less rush. Many foreign couples choose midweek for exactly that reason.
If the date matters to you, we book the venue first and arrange everything else around it.
Just the two of you
Many couples come alone - without guests. This is called eloping, and Georgia is very good for it.
The day is simple: registration, a photo session somewhere beautiful, dinner for two. The photographer is often the only witness.
A day like that still needs careful planning, especially in the mountains. We check the weather and the road in advance.
A big wedding
A Georgian wedding is traditionally big - hundreds of guests. If the family is Georgian too, that tradition can stay.
A big wedding needs a large hall, many waiters, a sound system and transport. It is the most complex logistics of all.
In that case we start planning months ahead and write every detail into a spreadsheet.
Guest logistics
Guests often come from different countries. We check visas and arrange transfers and a group booking at a hotel.
If the wedding is out of town, guest transport back at night is planned separately. A Georgian supra goes on late.
We often prepare a short guide for guests: the route, phone numbers, advice on what to wear.
The Georgian supra
The supra is led by the tamada, who gives the toasts - to the family, to ancestors, to love. For foreign guests it is often the main impression of the day.
The tamada can speak your language too, or have an interpreter. We agree the order of toasts in advance.
If you want a European format, the supra can be short. You decide how much tradition you want.
Music and dance
Georgian polyphonic singing is on UNESCO's intangible heritage list. A live ensemble makes a wedding special.
A Georgian dance group always delights guests. Sometimes the couple learn a short dance themselves.
In the evening a DJ or band can follow your style. We choose the repertoire together.
Photo and video
Georgian photographers know the locations and the light well. Many of them speak English or Russian.
The shooting plan is part of the ceremony plan: where, when, in what light. We work out the time of sunset in advance.
Drone filming needs permission in some places. We check that in advance.
Decor and flowers
The decor should follow the character of the place. In a vineyard - natural materials; in old Tbilisi - warm lighting.
Flowers are local and seasonal, which is better and longer-lasting. Exotic flowers are brought in and cost more.
We work on the sketch together with the decorator, so there are no surprises on the day.
Menu and dietary needs
Georgian cuisine includes many vegetable dishes, so there is always a choice for vegetarian guests.
Halal and kosher menus are possible with advance planning. For kosher the choice is limited, and we say so in advance.
We note allergies on the guest list and brief the kitchen separately.
Wine
In Georgia wine has been made in qvevri for eight thousand years. Choosing the wine for a wedding is a pleasure of its own.
At a chateau wedding the wine is often the house's own. In the city we choose it together with several winemakers.

Georgian traditions
A Georgian wedding has its own customs: the newlyweds break a plate on the threshold, guests sing the wedding song, white doves are released into the sky.
You can take the traditions you like and skip the rest. We explain to guests what each one means.
A tradition works when people understand it. So the host or the tamada briefly tells its story.
Dress and chokha
The dress is often brought from home. Tbilisi also has good tailors and salons if you want it made or altered here.
A Georgian chokha is a beautiful detail for the groom and male guests. It can be rented or made.
When flying, take the dress as hand luggage, and we arrange pressing on arrival in advance.
Stylist and make-up artist
A hair and make-up stylist comes to you - at the hotel or the chateau. Many of them work early in the morning.
We recommend a trial session one or two days before the wedding. That way there are no surprises on the day.
If guests want a stylist too, we build the schedule so that the ceremony is not delayed.
Children at the wedding
At a Georgian wedding children are ordinary guests. For a long evening they need their own corner and a nanny.
We arrange a separate children's menu and an early dinner for them. At bedtime - a quiet room or a ride back to the hotel.
The nanny service is in the family section. At a wedding it is often the most appreciated detail.
The wedding convoy
At a Georgian wedding a convoy of cars is a tradition: the cars travel together, often sounding their horns, and it is as much part of the day as the supra.
For the couple we arrange a limousine or a classic car; for guests, minibuses and coaches with drivers.

Weather and plan B
An open-air ceremony always needs a plan B: a marquee, an indoor hall or another date in the mountains.
Mountain weather changes fast. We choose the ceremony time so that there is room for clouds.
We agree plan B with the venue in advance, so there is no panic at the last minute.
Language
Registration is conducted in Georgian. If you do not speak Georgian, an interpreter is needed, and we arrange one.
A symbolic ceremony is held in your language or in two languages. A bilingual text brings both families together.
We agree everything with suppliers - the venue, the photographer, the tamada - and you get everything in your language.
Planning timeline
For registration alone, a few days or weeks are enough. The documents must be checked in advance.
For a small wedding two to three months, for a big one six to twelve months. In the popular season venues fill up early.
If time is short, we still try. There is just less choice.

The cost of a wedding depends on the number of guests, the venue, the season and the suppliers. No fixed price can be written here.

Honeymoon

If guests are staying on too, we plan a separate tour for them, so the couple can rest on their own.
After the wedding
The apostille and translation of the certificate are often done after the wedding. If you have already left, we can prepare them without you.
We send the documents by international courier. The tracking number comes to you straight away.
If additional paperwork is requested at home for recognition, we help with it.

Different spellings of a name in the passport and the translation. Arriving without checking the recognition rules at home.
