A honeymoon in Georgia

Georgia is a rare country for a honeymoon: short distances, great variety and a hospitality that warms a couple especially.

If the wedding was here too, the honeymoon is a natural continuation: one flight, and after the guests leave, it is just the two of you.

Our role

We plan the route at your pace and book the hotels, the driver and the special moments.

We are available during the trip but do not disturb you. Everything runs so that you never have to think about the arrangements.

The first days after the wedding

After the wedding body and mind are tired. For the first two days we do not plan long journeys.

Often the first stop is a quiet chateau or a hotel with a view, with nothing but sleep, breakfast and walks.

When your energy returns, the route begins. This rule saves the honeymoon.

How many days

Five days is enough for one or two regions. A week is the classic balance: mountains, wine and rest.

With ten to fourteen days you can add Svaneti or Tusheti, or rest by the sea.

We count the days so that every two or three days there is one calm day.

Five days

In five days it is best to give time to two places: for example Tbilisi and Kakheti, or Tbilisi and Kazbegi.

We do not recommend one night in each place - packing a suitcase eats into rest.

On a short honeymoon moments give more than kilometres.

One week

In a week three characters are possible: city, mountains and wine region, with two nights in each.

The drive from Kazbegi to Kakheti via Tbilisi takes a day, and we plan it calmly, with stops.

The last night is often in Tbilisi, before the flight, so the morning drive to the airport is short.

Ten to fourteen days

On a long honeymoon west and east can go together: mountain Svaneti, the sea and wine.

A logical direction matters here, so you do not travel the same road twice.

There is also a domestic flight between Svaneti and Tbilisi, but it depends on the weather. We always keep an overland backup.

Spring

In spring the lowlands are green and in bloom, while the mountains still have snow. The contrast is beautiful in photos.

Some high mountain roads are still closed at this time. Svaneti is accessible, Tusheti not yet.

There are few tourists and the hotels are quiet. For a honeymoon that is a big advantage.

Summer

In summer the mountains are at their best: open roads, flowering meadows, cool evenings.

The lowlands and Tbilisi are hot, so we shorten the city days and add mountain days.

The sea is crowded in summer. If you want the sea, we choose a quiet stretch of coast instead of central Batumi.

Autumn

Many consider autumn the best season: the harvest in Kakheti, golden forests and a warm sea in September.

During the harvest a couple can join in picking grapes and pressing wine - unforgettable.

By late October it is already cold high in the mountains, and some roads close. We allow for this in the route.

Winter

A winter honeymoon - snowy mountains, a fireplace, mulled wine and skiing in Gudauri.

Tbilisi's baths are especially pleasant in winter, and there are fewer tourists in the city.

Some mountain roads restrict traffic in winter. We plan the route with a spare day.

A private driver

A honeymoon with a private driver is the calmest: the road, directions and parking are not your concern.

The driver knows local restaurants, viewpoints and quiet places, and you can stop at any time.

In the wine region a driver is essential - no one gets behind the wheel after a tasting.

Driving yourselves

Some couples prefer to drive themselves - for freedom. That is possible, with a rental car.

Georgian mountain roads are narrow and winding, and the local driving style feels unusual at first.

We often recommend a combination: your own car in the lowlands, a driver in the mountains and on wine days.

Hotels for couples

For a honeymoon we choose small, quiet hotels - a boutique hotel in the city, a chateau in the vineyards, a mountain hotel with a view.

When booking we mention that it is a honeymoon. Some hotels mark it with a small gesture, but we do not promise that.

We choose the room for its view, quiet and balcony, not just for its stars.

Tbilisi's baths

In Abanotubani the sulphur baths have private rooms where a couple can be alone.

Hot mineral water and a traditional massage are the best recovery after a wedding.

We book the room in advance, for an evening hour, when the old town's lights are beautiful.

Wine for two

A private tasting in a family cellar, where the winemaker tells you the story of the qvevri and the grapes in person.

Dinner in a cellar or among the vines, just for two, with candles and local dishes.

A cooking class

Making khinkali or khachapuri together in a family kitchen - a fun experience that brings you closer.

The host family's grandmother is often the best teacher, and language is no barrier here.

You take the recipe home, and every time you cook it you will remember the honeymoon.

Mountain calm

In a mountain hotel the morning begins with a view of the peak from the window. It is one of the most beautiful moments of a honeymoon.

Two nights in the mountains is the minimum, so the trip is not just a road.

Svaneti

Svaneti - defensive towers, glaciers and ancient villages - gives a honeymoon a sense of legend.

The road is long, so we give Svaneti at least three nights. Ushguli is a day trip from Mestia.

Hotels in Svaneti are simple, but the views make up for everything.

Tusheti

Tusheti is the most remote and wild corner. At night the stars here are like almost nowhere else.

The road to Tusheti is open only in the warm months and is very difficult. Only with an experienced driver and a 4x4.

In Tusheti internet and comfort are limited. It is for couples seeking true seclusion.

The sea

The Black Sea is a calm end to a honeymoon: a sea view, the botanical garden, an evening on the shore.

Batumi is a lively city. If you want quiet, we choose a small hotel to the south or north.

The sea is pleasant from June to October. It is warmest in August and September.

Spa and mineral waters

Borjomi and Tskaltubo are mineral water resorts, and they have spa hotels.

A spa day mid-trip restores energy, especially after active days.

The south and Vardzia

Southern Georgia has the rock-cut monastery of Vardzia and beautiful fortresses.

This route combines well with Borjomi, and many couples are drawn to lesser-known places.

Vardzia has many steps. Comfortable shoes and a morning hour are best.

Active days

Hiking, rafting, paragliding in Gudauri, horse riding - adventure together brings you closer.

After an active day we always plan a calm day. The body needs to recover after a wedding.

Sunrise and sunset

Sunrise with a mountain view or sunset over the sea - the most precious simple moments of a honeymoon.

We plan such moments: where, at what hour, how to get there, and hot tea in a flask.

It costs nothing, but you remember it the longest.

Surprises

If one of you wants a surprise for the other - flowers in the room, dinner with a view, a musician - we arrange it in secret.

We agree the surprise details with one person only, and take care that the secret is kept.

Sometimes the best surprise is simple: breakfast on the balcony and a free day with no plan.

A honeymoon photo session

On the wedding day there is little time for photos. On the honeymoon a photo session is calm, in a beautiful place, unhurried.

Some couples put the wedding dress on once more in the mountains or by the sea - a so-called after-wedding session.

We choose a photographer locally, so they do not need a long drive from Tbilisi.

Neighbouring countries

Armenia is often planned together with Georgia as one trip - over a land border.

Border crossing rules depend on citizenship. We check them in advance.

Imereti

Imereti is the green heart of western Georgia: Martvili Canyon, Prometheus Cave, waterfalls and local wine.

Imereti is a natural stop between Tbilisi and the sea or Svaneti, splitting a long road in two.

Kutaisi airport is sometimes convenient if the honeymoon begins or ends in the west.

Staying with a family

A night in a Georgian family guesthouse - with the host's wine, dinner and stories - is often the warmest memory.

Comfort here is simple, but the hospitality is such that a couple feels part of the family.

If you want privacy, we choose a room with its own entrance.

Georgian cuisine for two

On a honeymoon you should taste each region's dishes: Megrelian khachapuri, Adjarian khachapuri, mountain khinkali, Kakhetian mtsvadi.

We choose restaurants with a view and family kitchens where there are few tourists.

Georgian cuisine is rich for vegetarians and special diets - we agree this in advance.

Days with no plan

The most common honeymoon mistake is an overloaded plan. We leave free days.

On a free day you can sleep late, walk, or simply look at the view.

If you get bored, one call and we suggest a new idea.

The wedding dress and luggage

A wedding dress and suit are a burden on the road. We send them home by international courier.

Or after the wedding we keep the dress at a hotel and return it to you on the last night.

Insurance

Travel insurance on a honeymoon matters as much as on any trip.

Mountains and active days need the right cover in the policy. We check this in advance.

Staying connected

A local SIM card with internet helps throughout the trip. We arrange it on arrival.

High in the mountains, especially in Tusheti, the signal is weak or absent. Sometimes that is a gift.

The driver is always in touch with us, and in an emergency we know where you are.

A honeymoon years later

Some couples celebrate a honeymoon on an anniversary - a second honeymoon in Georgia.

Such a trip is often planned together with a church wedding or a renewal of vows.

The pace is calm again, and the moments are again for two.

Common mistakes

A different hotel every night. A long drive on the day after the wedding.

Planning Tusheti in May, when the road is still closed. Driving on a wine day.

And the biggest mistake of all is a plan without a free day.
